Meet Randy
Randy Gibbs brings one of the deepest ski service and coaching resumes in American Nordic skiing to Snø Racing.
A veteran of three Olympic Games, Randy served as Head of Glide for the U.S. Ski Team at the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Olympics, then led ski service for Ski and Snowboard Australia at the 2018 PyeongChang Games. He has worked six World Championships across two national programs: Sapporo 2007, Liberec 2009, Oslo 2011 and Val di Fiemme 2013 with the U.S. Ski Team, and Lahti 2017 and Seefeld 2019 with Australia. He also ran ski service for six straight U.S. Junior and U23 World Championship teams from 2006 to 2011, and has more than 300 FIS World Cup race days. In 2017, Ski and Snowboard Australia (now Snow Australia) named him International Coach of the Year.
Randy has coached high school and club skiers in Minnesota for more than 15 years, with White Noise Nordic, Minnesota Valley and Loppet Nordic Racing. At Hopkins High School, his teams won three straight Minnesota Girls State Championships from 2002 to 2004. One of his athletes from that era, ultrarunner Courtney Dauwalter (Courtney's Salomon Website, opens in a new tab), credits him in the documentary The Source: "He taught me everything I know about basically going into the pain cave and being okay with it."
He also introduced his sister, Becky Lavelle, to triathlon and coached her for about 15 years. She went on to win the 2005 USA Triathlon National Championship and race for the U.S. at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In his first season with the team, Randy handled ski service for the relay at the 2026 Craftsbury SuperTour Finals, where the team upset APU's squad of four 2026 Olympians by 46 seconds to win the national championship relay (official relay results, opens in a new tab). It was the first time a team other than APU or Stratton Mountain School had won it.
"Snø Racing is building something rare in American Nordic skiing: a program with genuine international standards, a deep community foundation, and real ambition to develop athletes from anywhere who want to compete at the highest level. My goal is to help build the systems that make that sustainable." Randy Gibbs
